What Makes a Great Custom Paint by Numbers Photo? (15 Real Examples)

Choosing the right photo is one of the most important steps when ordering a custom Paint by Numbers kit. Fortunately, you don't need to be a professional photographer. With a few simple guidelines, almost anyone can select a photo that becomes a beautiful painting.

What Makes a Great Photo?

The best images are high resolution, sharply focused, well lit, naturally colored, and feature a clear subject with a simple background. These characteristics help preserve detail and create an enjoyable painting experience.

15 Inspiring Examples

Examples include close-up dog portraits, family photos, weddings, cats, horses, mountain landscapes, beach vacations, grandparents with grandchildren, childhood homes, flower gardens, classic cars, sailboats, multiple pets, lighthouses, and first birthday celebrations.

Photos That May Need Improvement

Blurry images, dark photos, heavy filters, cluttered backgrounds, and tiny faces can reduce painting quality. Choosing a larger canvas or a different photo often solves these issues.

Tips Before You Upload

Use the highest-resolution version available, avoid screenshots, don't crop too tightly, ensure faces are clearly visible, and choose a photo with personal meaning.

Every Photo Is Reviewed

Paint Your Numbers reviews every custom photo before production and may optimize brightness, contrast, color balance, or recommend a larger canvas to achieve the best possible result.

Frequently Asked Questions

Modern smartphone photos usually work very well. Older photos can often be enhanced, larger canvases help preserve group details, and black-and-white images can create beautiful nostalgic paintings.

Conclusion

A great custom Paint by Numbers painting begins with a meaningful photograph. Whether it's your pet, family, vacation, or favorite place, the right image becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art you'll proudly display.
